ICT050: Contactless In-Cylinder Linear Transducer

NEW! The ICT050 Contactless In-Cylinder Linear Transducer combines the best features associated with LVDTs and potentiometers into one rugged, contactless and highly reliable displacement transducer.
With a body diameter of only 5.4mm the ICT050 is the smallest transducer package we offer, and is ideal for installation into hydraulic and pnematic cylinder applications where space is at a premium.
The ICT050 is ideal for use on small-bore actuators and offers a choice of internal or threaded flange mounting configurations (including SAE1926/2 and ISO6149/2 compatible thread forms), to suit tie-rod, welded and rear clevis-mounted cylinder types in stroke ranges from 25 to 500mm. Three core configurations also provide the designer the following options:
• SLEEVED CORE - cylinder rods can be simply machined to accommodate the sleeve. This also gives the option of retro-fitting existing servo-cylinders with an upgrade to ICT technology.
• THREADED CORE - provides the designer with the minimum transducer body size and simplified installation requiring minimal machining.
• FORCE FIT CORE - the core can be pressed into the cylinder rod and is retained by a tolerance ring.
With no electrical sliding contacts, the ICT050 has a working life which is almost limitless.
Signal conditioning is carried out by separate electronics packages (EICT or EICTM) which can be located up to 10 metres away from the harsh environment in which the transducer may be required to operate. Operating from 10 to 60Vdc, the electronics modules can provide a wide range of voltage output signals as well as a 4-20mA current output option or digital PWM signal. The electronics is housed in a high strength IP66 (or metal IP68) enclosure and includes user adjustment for zero and gain.

• Working pressure to 500 Bar (7,500 psi)
• High temperature capability to +200°C (+392°F)
• Small transducer body length to stroke ratio
• Infinite resolution
• Absolute measurement
• Flexible mounting styles
• Rugged stainless steel construction
• CE approved
• Rapid despatch of any option

SLT190: Contactless Linear Position Transducer

NEW! The new SLT190 linear position transducer is designed to provide reliable, fit-and-forget position sensing (up to 500mm) within a compact transducer size for the most arduous operating environments.
The SLT190 has been designed with 21st century applications in mind. The transducer can witstand operating temperatures from -40 to +150°C and has been tested to withstand shocks to 10,000g. With EMC Immunity of 100V/m, this transducer is ready for the harshest of applications.
To minimise the transducer size and the impact on the overall system, we provide separate signal conditioning electronics (EICT or EICTM) housed in rugged IP66 or IP68 rated enclosures. The electronics module can be located up to 10m away from the transducer, well away from any hostile conditions (vibration, mechanical impact, temperature) that the position transducer may encounter during operation. The result is a more reliable transducer solution, easily installed and adjusted and more flexible in the choice of outputs available – including voltage, current and digital PWM.

New pulse-width modulation option offers low cost digital signalling

NEW! Penny + Giles, designer and manufacturer of high precision sensing technology, has developed a pulse-width modulation (PWM) option for its ICT range of contactless in-cylinder linear transducers.
Launched last year, the rugged and reliable ICT range was designed for hostile conditions inside mobile and static hydro-pneumatic actuators. The new option provides further assurance for OEMs as the digital signal of the PWM is more robust and less vulnerable to noise than analogue voltage signals. The option also provides a simple cost-effective way to ‘go digital’ as it does not require an A/D converter or other re-configuration.
Penny + Giles’ ICT transducers come with a separate electronics package, EICT. This can be located up to 10m away from the transducer protecting it from the harsh environments associated with heavy-duty applications such as steering position actuators and hydro-pneumatic suspension systems. Currently, the EICT provides analogue position feedback proportional to the cylinder rod position for actuator strokes up to 2000mm.
The PWM option produces a TTL-level compatible signal which has a duty cycle proportional to transducer displacement. This can be converted easily to a digital value by most microcontrollers without the necessity for expensive high-resolution analogue to digital converters.
Four different output frequencies can be selected, 100Hz, 130Hz, 310Hz and 1000Hz, allowing users to choose the best compromise between digital resolution and acquisition speed for their particular system. As a result of this development, OEMs can now expand their digital control logic offering for measurement and control sensing technology in line with increased customer demand.

SLH100: Hall Effect Contactless Linear Sensor

NEW! SLH100 Hall Effect Contactless Linear Sensor
The Penny+Giles Hall Effect Linear Sensor - SLH100 - has been specifically designed to provide precision cost-effective position sensing, using the proven contactless Hall effect principle.

The sensor is a fully encapsulated electronic device and is intended to compete with sealed potentiometers and inductive sensors. The sensor can be used for a variety of automotive, industrial vehicle, marine and control applications.
The durable design and absence of mechanical linkages makes this sensor attractive for use in harsh environments - where particles, moisture, temperature and vibration can be present.
Robust, maintenance-free and easy to fit, the Penny+Giles Hall Effect Linear Sensor represents a cost-effective solution for demanding linear position sensing applications.
