New joystick feature - CANBus available with JC6000

JC6000
JC6000

NEW! Penny + Giles is launching a new output option for its range of JC6000 robust multi-axis joysticks - CANbus.
As operators demand improved efficiency, responsiveness and functionality from their vehicles, OEMs are turning to CANbus systems to enable them to improve control systems in off-highway construction, municipal and agricultural vehicles. The company’s popular JC6000s can now be connected easily to the Bus network and communicate with add-on sub-systems and equipment such as hedge trimmers, and intelligent ploughs.
There is also a CANbus facility where additional input pins are provided in the joystick mating connector, enabling non-CANbus features to be connected directly to the Bus network without an extra node being required. This enables a system integrator to design smaller, neater joystick interfaces for applications such as machine armrests.
The CANbus option uses two Hall sensors in each of the XY axes to provide safe, reliable operation with the long life benefits of this contactless technology. This safety is further enhanced as signal integrity checks are carried out within the joystick.
The CANbus option benefits from the use of a moulded plastic cover with integrated connector providing an IP66 sealing rating below the panel when the appropriated sealed mating connector is used.
Penny + Giles offers a wide range of standard configurable handle designs including additional axes of control, momentary and person present switches that can be integrated into the CANbus output. Large volume OEM users can also benefit from the Penny + Giles custom-design service to develop handle formats that are unique to specialist vehicle functions.

JC2000: New low profile joystick handle for chest packs and robotics equipment

JC2000 with HL-Handel
JC2000 with HL-Handel
JC2000 with HL-Handel
JC2000 with HL-Handel

NEW! New handle for its popular JC2000 joystick controller. Designed specifically for remote operation chest packs and robotics equipment, the HL handle measures just 57mm in height providing OEMs with a low profile that enables greater flexibility of design and increased durability of equipment.

The new handle, which can be used for one, two or three axis operation, has been created for units that have limited protection around the joystick or which require multiple controllers within a small surface area. By reducing the profile, damage to the joystick can be minimised should the unit be mishandled (for example if a chest pack is dropped during operation). It also reduces the chances of operators leaning on other handles during operation causing un-necessary wear and tear.

Its low profile, combined with a below mounting flange depth of only 31mm, enables designers to meet increasing demand for smaller, more compact control units. Sealed to IP65 with hidden fixings ensures protection in environments where dust and other particles may be present.

JC2000 is a reliable, proven joystick controller based on non-contact Hall-effect technology. Used for precision fingertip control in radio/infrared chest packs and robotic teach controllers and for more than five years, it provides smooth and accurate control where safety and long life are primary requirements.

New pulse-width modulation option offers low cost digital signalling

NEW! Penny + Giles, designer and manufacturer of high precision sensing technology, has developed a pulse-width modulation (PWM) option for its ICT range of contactless in-cylinder linear transducers.
Launched last year, the rugged and reliable ICT range was designed for hostile conditions inside mobile and static hydro-pneumatic actuators. The new option provides further assurance for OEMs as the digital signal of the PWM is more robust and less vulnerable to noise than analogue voltage signals. The option also provides a simple cost-effective way to ‘go digital’ as it does not require an A/D converter or other re-configuration.
Penny + Giles’ ICT transducers come with a separate electronics package, EICT. This can be located up to 10m away from the transducer protecting it from the harsh environments associated with heavy-duty applications such as steering position actuators and hydro-pneumatic suspension systems. Currently, the EICT provides analogue position feedback proportional to the cylinder rod position for actuator strokes up to 2000mm.
The PWM option produces a TTL-level compatible signal which has a duty cycle proportional to transducer displacement. This can be converted easily to a digital value by most microcontrollers without the necessity for expensive high-resolution analogue to digital converters.
Four different output frequencies can be selected, 100Hz, 130Hz, 310Hz and 1000Hz, allowing users to choose the best compromise between digital resolution and acquisition speed for their particular system. As a result of this development, OEMs can now expand their digital control logic offering for measurement and control sensing technology in line with increased customer demand.

SSC: Sensor Signal Conditioning
